“Whatever excites you, go do it. Whatever drains you, stop doing it.”
It’s as simple as that. The world is full of dementors: people and things that will waste your time, drain you of energy and leave you feeling sad, empty and miserable. Identify who and what they are – and get rid of them (without mercy).
Seneca writes with brutal efficiency on this topic:
“Nobody works out the value of time: men use it lavishly as if it cost nothing… We have to be more careful in preserving what will cease at an unknown point.”
The reality is that we simply don’t have time to waste. Yet, we spend hours doing things we hate, for no good reason.
So be vigilant – and banish dementors from your life.
