Creative wisdom from Dave Chappelle: “The idea takes you where it wants to go.” | 76/100

“If I have an idea, it’s the driver. The idea says, ‘Get in the car,’ and I’m like, ‘Where am I going?’ The idea says, ‘I don’t know. Don’t worry about it. I’m driving.’ Then you just get there. Sometimes I’m shotgun, sometimes I’m in the fucking trunk. The idea takes you where it wants to go. Other times, me as my ego is like, ‘I should do something.’ There’s no idea in the car. It’s just me. That formula doesn’t work.”

-Dave Chappelle

Do you know where the word ‘authority’ comes from? It’s derived from the Latin, ‘authore’, meaning ‘to create’.

You earn respect and gravitas by making stuff happen – by bringing new things into existence.

The way that happens (the creative process) is constantly changing and shrouded in mystery – despite the enormous number of courses, books and documentaries.

As Chappelle so aptly describes, we often don’t have a choice in the path our ideas take.

When they come, we’ve got to strike – run with them as far and as fast as we can.

  1. Chapelle right some way…I actually planned the story for next week only bcz I liked the title of the story, but I don’t know (have no idea yet) what it will be. Hopefully the title-idea will get me there :))
